Gynecological Surgery and Treatments

As women age, their bodies change. Sometimes they encounter situations that demand special attention. At Texas Health Center for Diagnostics & Surgery, physicians on the medical staff have the expertise to treat conditions such as fibroids, excessive uterine bleeding and pelvic organ prolapse. Our gynecologic surgery program has been recognized by several leading organizations, including Healthgrades, for outstanding quality, outcomes and patient satisfaction.

With advanced surgical techniques, including robotic-assisted surgery, physicians can treat complex gynecologic procedures with greater precision and control.

Common gynecologic surgical procedures include:

Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a procedure to check the cervix. Your gynecologist may suggest this type of surgery if your recent Pap smear results are abnormal. A closer look at the cervix may determine the cause of the abnormal results.

D&C

A Dilation and Curettage, also known as a “D&C”, is a common gynecological surgical procedure used to diagnose or treat abnormal uterine bleeding.

Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing some, most or all of the reproductive organs including the cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries and uterus.

Hysteroscopy

A hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows your physician to view the uterus in order to diagnose and treat causes of abnormal bleeding. The procedure is done using a hysteroscope, a thin, lighted tube that allows examination of the cervix and the uterus. It may be done in conjunction with other procedures, such as a dilation and curettage (D&C).

LEEP

“LEEP” (Loop electrosurgical excision procedure) is a test to remove abnormal cell growth on the surface tissue of the cervix. The procedure allows your physician to remove the abnormal tissue and test it for cancer.
