Dr. Richard Guyer is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Guyer attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, completed his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Guyer then completed two fellowships in spine surgery one with renowned spine surgeon Henry Bohlman, M.D. in Cleveland, Ohio and the other with Leon Wiltse, M.D. in California. Dr. Guyer is the co-director of the Texas Back Institute Fellowship Program and co-director of the Center for Disc Replacement at Texas Health Center for Diagnostics and Surgery.
Dr. Guyer focuses on treating spinal injuries and illnesses in the lumbar and cervical spine. He has a special interest in motion preserving technologies related to spine surgery. He was one of the first surgeons in the US to perform artificial disc replacement surgery in the low back and neck and has been involved in several clinical trials testing artificial disc replacement technologies. Dr. Guyer is a founding partner of Texas Back Institute and has a location in Plano, Texas.
